Were you there?

Hey guys!
Taking a leaf out of my brother's book and not been blogging for a while.

This week has been a quite a toughy. Various work dilemmas etc etc but yesterday one of my clients stole my purse. What he didn't realise was that I don't tend to carry much cash with me - ha ha gutted!
I couldn't care much for the money anyway it's just a right old hassle canceling cards and awaiting new ones.

This incident has taught me a few lessons. Firstly I must spend needless amounts of money through each day as I am now lost without my purse. You know how it is, the odd sandwich here and there, car park tickets, bit of make-up, coffee, and the list goes on. Maybe I should leave my purse at home more often (when I get a replacement that is!!)
Secondly the words of an old assembly hymn favourite sprung to mind this morning. It made me think how much more this guy needs the stuff I have more than me. I'm not condoning what he's done and it has been reported to the police but he is someone in real need. Not just financial but in every way. I'll leave you with the words of the song....

When I needed a neighbour
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a neighbour
Were you there?

And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter
Were you there?

I was hungry and thirsty
Were you there, were you there?
I was hungry and thirsty
Were you there?

And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter
Were you there?

I was cold, I was naked
Were you there, were you there?
I was cold, I was naked
Were you there?

And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter
Were you there?

When I needed a shelter
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a shelter
Were you there?

And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter
Were you there?

When I needed a healer
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a healer
Were you there?

And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter
Were you there?

Wherever you travel
I’ll be there, I’ll be there.
Wherever you travel
I’ll be there.

And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter
I’ll be there.

You know, I always struggled with that song. It seemed like a really strange song to sing in assemblies - and made absolutely no sense to me as a child whatsoever. Funny how we remember things as we get older though, as soon as I read your heading I starting singing it in my head.

I still think that song leaves a lot to be desired and I still have lots of issues with how it says what it's trying to say, but the meaning is good - and is a reminder, like you said, that our focus so often needs shifting from ourselves to others and the world around.

Great blog - made me think today :)
